"I don’t have my beliefs to prepare me for Death. I have my

beliefs to prepare me for Life. A life beyond and the next.

A life with no regret." E.Croe

EBON CROE

"I scribe what I witness in shadow."

My work isn’t about judgment. It’s about revealing what’s hidden in the darkest of places. I write to uncover what has been buried for a long time, to name the monsters that one has carried in silence. Monsters whom I have conceded to, as they are never going away. There’s a calm that comes from witnessing the shadows, a stillness I’ve learned to wear as a second skin.

Story Behind the Toll

Ebon Croe is the literary persona of Maurice K. Kimball III, an artist, poet, and storyteller whose work blends personal experience with mythic cosmology. His debut book, VITA MORTUIS: Fear Behind the Seethe Door, chronicles the four seasons of a tortured soul named Wynter von Geist — a symbolic reflection of Maurice’s own lived journey. In the Fifth Season, Wynter transforms into Ebon Croe, the scribe whose voice shapes the subsequent volumes of a trilogy.

Through poetry, short fiction, and visual narrative, Croe explores themes of grief, shadowed judgment, consequence, and the liminal space between life and death. His work continues in The Croe Tolls and the forthcoming Corpse Hollow, expanding a mythos that merges intimate human truth with cosmic storytelling.

Ebon Croe resides in the Pacific Northwest, whose work focuses on chilling tones of ghostly encounters and the psychological effects they have on human behaviour. His writing is a hybrid collection of interconnected short stories, half written in lyrical verse and half in traditional prose, with a reflective approach to the darker aspects of personal and collective haunting experiences. He explores the forces that define us, our choices, regrets, and the vulnerabilities we carry into our curiosity about the afterlife. Ebon sits comfortably in the shadows, writing about what bumps us in the physical night, himself haunted by a life concealed over his own.

A holiday misadventure about belief, temptation, and finding your true heart.
